How to Activate Third Eye Chakra Safely

Close-up of a deep purple bird of paradise bloom against dark tropical foliage — evoking the indigo energy of the third eye chakra and the quiet inward focus of a grounding practice

Within chakra and energy-healing traditions, third eye chakra awakening — known as Ajna, located at the forehead between the eyebrows — is approached gradually, with grounding used first to create a sense of stability, and as an RN with over twenty years of nursing experience and Reiki Master expertise, this is one of the most common experiences people describe to me. One grounding practice drawn from yoga and chakra healing traditions is simple: sit with feet flat, breathe slowly, and visualize roots extending from the base of the spine into the earth. Once settled, bring gentle attention to the brow center, visualize indigo light at the forehead, and repeat chakra affirmations aloud — such as "I trust my inner knowing." Some practitioners incorporate chakra stones such as amethyst or lapis lazuli, held in the hand or placed at the brow, as part of the practice. If a practice session leaves you feeling unusually unsettled, overwhelmed, or disconnected from ordinary daily routines, pause rather than push for a stronger experience — return to grounding activities and, when appropriate, seek support from a qualified healthcare or mental health professional.
